A Foolish Proposal

To imagine nobody knows,

our hearts turn to stone

we might waffle in envy,

scorned by our own soul.

When a stroll in twilight

seems singular

what happens if the world

around is forgotten.

Lives become measured

without sacrifice

only retrospective annals

of lost imagined horizons.

While traffic lights blink,

cast away the fears of our now,

reach out, breathe, anticipate

lives respond, sweet elegance.

While the business of reality

pokes the bear, laugh out loud!

Why Sisters Are Cool

I called my sister today,

before I even uttered a word

she asked me if everything was ok,

then in a gasp I tried to breathe

she said then, what’s wrong?

I called my sister today,

before I even uttered a word

I knew I could lose my shit

and she would think it be okay

she waited for me to breathe

I told her I was tired.

I called my sister this way

I knew she would hear what I wanted

to say yet her patience is my takeaway

she waited, she smiled, I could feel it,

I could feel her love, it’s just her way.

I took a breath, and our conversation …

In the matter of a phone call home

I discovered love is always on display.

Walking Outside

Pay attention to surroundings

the world in concrete dustings

we wear the right shoes

they’ll comfort the blues

make a long day seem rather

sweet in an odd sort of flavor

of calling the shots in a mid-day

conference where decides the way.

Welcome the summer air fresh

from last night’s rain, a thresh

makes her presence known at dawn

well listen wondering where on the lawn

will she find her dewy worm,

will we watch a bit of nature squirm.

watch the sunlight begin another hour

when while history occurs in our tower.

If in just a quiet moment this anxiety

we seem to hide to suggest our sanity

would step away for only a partial

afternoon, we could relax against a wall

rest assured our lives are all the same

it just seems more apparent we play the game.

Watch the sunrise one more time with me

for the wandering mind cannot deny the

simple beauty in the elegance of our way

this human condition, defines forever our day.

Feeling The Rains

He didn’t have to look outside today

to feel the sunshine quickly step away.

We sense the energy, a rainy day

would bring our sorrows into light of day.

Soft in a cleansing wash would now the fray

of a conscience in pain, solemn display.

Oh to know the special nature such lay

ahead in sensual burdens love weigh.

Walk with me again, feel water release

sweet remedy will provide treatise.

Might we then our hope to abate increase

while certain inhibition will decrease.

Oh to know the sweet scent of summer day

when rains offer the silence a quiet peace.

Standing On The Edge

The job is done,

there is a light ahead,

a bit of peace,

planning for a soft landing

the harsh reality of this

reason

our own examined purpose

seems less imperative

Watching the rains today

falling forever

a reminder of a constant

unlike the streaking sunlight

of a gorgeous spring day,

rains are fallible

they leave a mark,

a damp reminder

of what is what may be

what the afterward might see.

Could it be so simple

as watching a spring storm

cover the earth around us

allowing life to grow

when inside

the mind seems to seek

any obstacle to suggest

our lives that matter

are lives of little …

or is it part of some

chemical imbalance

like the heads say,

a reasoning that could be

a wild hair

rather than a logical

synapse that suggests

the true meaning of perfection

is

a quiet response

to the mystique we know to be

the human condition

In Respect to Anger

A friend of mine

told me the truth today,

said in a matter of fact way,

you are too angry man,

life is too short.

I paused,

put away my defenses

began to wonder about my

starting words,

and came to the conclusion,

I’m always

this or that or why or because or they

yet somehow I’m never too me.

Life is too short,

life is too sweet

life is a carnival

and yet we never quite

make it to the

presidential suite

Instead we look for someone else

to take the blame,

and so standing in the parking lot

tonight,

I felt my eyes did well with tears

realized my exhaustion has a purpose

allows me to come to terms

with who I am what time I have

life is a carnival after all,

we should remember just how to

enjoy the ride.
